Tony Hawk : Radical Recap

Max meets the Hawk!
I think I finally understand the term ‘whirlwind’, because that’s what the whole thing felt like..
It all started the morning of July 28th when 50 lucky people won the chance to meet Tony Hawk/Willy Santos and Kevin Staab at the shop.

Rylee’s getting stoked!
For the month’s leading up to it I treated it like any other event.  Need posters, PA, DJ, promo etc. Everything was business as usual…..

Max meets the Hawk!
…until 11am Saturday morning when TONY HAWK walked into my store !
Then it all hit me. This is going to be a crazy day :)
In the weeks before the event I had a lot of people asking what kind of crowd to expect. My answer was always the same: ‘I have no idea’
Vancouver can be a tough City when it comes to demos. We have a lot of talent here already, so sometimes turnouts are low. I estimated that about 500 could show up
As luck would have it I underestimated by almost a thousand!
The bowl was packed and saw the biggest crowd its ever had. Â Tony and the Birdhouse team put on a great demo and kept the hungry fans entertained all the way through. Everyone had their iphones out to capture this historical moment in Vancouver.
Some of the locals even got to skate with the Birdman including our own Adam Hopkins (seen here politely asking Tony if he can try a 540 after Tony lands his).
All in all it was a day many will not soon forget and a big success for Blvd. Â We were given the opportunity to help bring the biggest name in skateboarding to Vancouver and we nailed it. Stoked!
Thanks to Tony and the Birdhouse team, Ultimate Distribution, The PNE, Vinyl Ritchie for dj’ing the event, Wee for the pics and Fortune for hosting an awesome after party.
Let’s do it again soon!
